179 AC Replacement Contractors in San Diego, CA

San Diego's mild coastal climate — summer highs rarely above 76°F with minimal days above 90°F — means AC is genuinely optional for many homes near the coast. Further inland, temperatures are more aggressive, and older homes being renovated increasingly add central air for resale value and comfort. The ac replacement San Diego market has 35 contractors averaging 4.9 stars across 13,718 reviews, with 11 providing 24/7 service.

Central AC replacement costs range from $5,060 for a basic 3-ton system to $14,720 for a high-efficiency 5-ton unit. California requires HVAC contractors to hold the C-20 Warm-Air Heating, Ventilating, and Air-Conditioning Contractor license — a specialty classification from the Contractors State License Board that's separate from general contractor licensing.

Anderson Plumbing, Heating & Air draws consistent praise for quick scheduling, on-time arrivals, and transparent pricing with upfront cost explanations before any work begins. Guthrie & Sons Heating, Air and Solar carries a 4.9 rating with the same themes repeated across reviews — professional technicians and clear communication at every step. Carini Home Services rounds out the leading tier with similar feedback on scheduling and pricing transparency, a consistent differentiator in a California market where cost surprises are a frequent complaint in other trades.
