AC Replacement in Metairie, LA: What to Expect
In the New Orleans metro area, including Metairie, the climate creates an almost constant demand for cooling. The region sees 72 days above 90 F each year, paired with Gulf Coast humidity approaching 78%, which places heavy latent cooling loads on air conditioning systems. These conditions keep residential and commercial cooling systems running for 8 to 9 months annually, making reliable AC Replacement in Metairie a practical necessity rather than a luxury upgrade. Twelve licensed contractors serve this market, collectively maintaining an average rating of 4.4 stars across 774 customer reviews, with only one offering around-the-clock emergency service.
When considering a full AC replacement, pricing reflects system capacity and efficiency ratings. A basic 3-ton central AC system typically ranges from $5,500 to $11,000, while mid-efficiency 4-ton units run $7,500 to $14,000. High-efficiency 5-ton systems represent the premium tier at $9,500 to $16,000. Louisiana law requires all HVAC contractors performing installation work to hold a Mechanical Work Contractor License with the HVAC subclassification from the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors, ensuring that licensed professionals handle refrigerant handling and duct work installation.
Customer reviews reveal distinct service patterns among top-rated contractors. Seruntine Refrigeration Services holds a 4.9 rating with technicians Gus, Lloyd, Jackson, and Joe repeatedly mentioned for prompt, knowledgeable service.
