42 AC Replacement Contractors in Durham, NC

Durham's Piedmont climate delivers 54 days above 90°F with high humidity in summer and cold winters that dip to 30°F — meaning AC replacement decisions here also need to account for heating system compatibility. The Durham market has 15 contractors averaging 4.8 stars from 1,565 reviews. That rating is high for a market this size, though the review volume is moderate; only one contractor offers 24/7 availability, so scheduling lead time matters.

Central AC replacement in Durham follows North Carolina market norms: a 3-ton basic system runs $5,500–$11,000 installed, a 4-ton mid-efficiency unit $7,500–$14,000, and a 5-ton high-efficiency system $9,500–$16,000. North Carolina requires contractors to hold an H1, H2, or H3 classification license from the NC State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating, and Fire Sprinkler Contractors — verify that license before signing any agreement.

CWJ Heating & Air Conditioning earns specific praise for how staff handle homeowner concerns — Bret is named for listening carefully to system worries and scheduling same-day inspections. Hay's Heating and Air has a strong track record with new construction, with custom home builders citing consistent on-schedule completion across multiple projects, plus clean professional replacements on existing homes. Enviro-NC draws returning customers with competitive initial pricing, though some reviews note installation follow-through has been mixed.
